How do I choose how many days of Exchange mail to sync with an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad?

This article only applies for mailboxes setup as Exchange mailboxes on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. If you are unsure how to setup your Exchange mailbox on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, please see the article “How do I set up an Exchange mailbox on an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad“.

When setting an Exchange mailbox up on an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, the default setting to sync the last 3 days of Mail to your device. You can change this as follows:

Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select your Exchange mailbox.

On the next screen, select “Mail Days to Sync”.

On the next screen, simply select number of days of mail you want to keep synced your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

If you want to sync ALL your mail, just select “No Limit”.

You can choose which Exchange mail folders you want to push to your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad as follows:

Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select your Exchange mailbox.

On the next screen, select “Mail Folders to Push”.

On the next screen, simply select the Exchange mailbox folders you want to automatically push to your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

You should now find mail from all your Exchange mailbox folders will be pushed to your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

How to sync your Sent, Draft and Deleted items IMAP folders on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad

This article only applies for mailboxes setup as IMAP mailboxes on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. If you are unsure how to setup your mailbox on your iPhone or iPad, please see the article “How to setup email on an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad“.

You can sync your Sent, Draft and Deleted items folders on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad with your mailbox as follows:

Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select the account you wish to sync.

On the next screen, scroll down to Advanced.

You will now see a section called “Mailbox Behaviours” which lists your Drafts, Sent and Deleted folders, select whichever you want to sync.

On the next screen, go down to the “On the Server” section and select the correct folder that you want to sync this local folder to. For most users, this will be “Sent” for Sent, “Drafts” for Drafts and “Trash” for Deleted.

If you repeat this process for each of your Sent, Drafts and Deleted folders, they will be synced up with their respective folder on the server.

How do I set up an Exchange mailbox on an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad?

You can setup your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to receive mail from one of your Exchange mailboxes as follows:

Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Microsoft Exchange

On the next screen enter the following settings:

Email: The email address for the Exchange mailbox you want to setup
Username: The email address for the Exchange mailbox you want to setup
Password: The password for the Exchange mailbox
Description: Your own description for the Exchange mailbox on your iPhone/iPod/iPad

Press Next

You may now get a message saying it cannot verify the identity of your domain name, just press Continue.

You will now see a “Server” option appear on the screen. In here, you should enter exchange.outitgoes.com and press Next.

If your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad has now successfully connected, you will be presented with the options to sync the Mail, Contacts and Calendar. Choose which ones you would like to sync and then press Save.

Your Exchange mailbox should now be successfully setup.

Unable to send email from iPhone, iPod touch or iPad

If you find you are unable to send email from your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, it may be because your provider is blocking connections on port 25. To resolve this you need to alter the port that your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad uses to send mail which can be done as follows.

Go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select the account you wish to change.

On the next screen, scroll down to the “Outgoing Mail Server” section and select the SMTP server that is listed.

You should now see a Primary Server listed, select this server and on the next screen, change the “Server Port” to 587.

This should now allow you to send emails from your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

Why is my secure site not showing the padlock in the browser?

The main reason for this is the use of a http:// link to a graphic or script inside the site rather than a virtual reference to the file which prevents the padlock from appearing.

Make sure all links to any page you wish to be secure do not contain any absolute http:// links to files (ie if in doubt use the full URL with https://).

I have ordered an SSL certificate or I have renewed my SSL certificate, but it does not look to be active

Our SSL certificates are provided by GlobalSign, and upon purchase, they send an authorisation email to confirm the certificate’s creation. This email is always sent to admin@[YOURDOMAIN]. If this email is not responded to, we will be unable to install the certificate for you, Make sure you have the mailbox set up, and that it can receive mail. If you have already purchased a certificate, and the admin@ mailbox did not exist at the time, please contact our support department, we will be able to re-send the email for you.

We will automatically install certificates you purchase from us, no manual work is required. However, if the certificate is newly set up, please note that a DNS update is required. This will point your chosen subdomain (e.g. https://www.yourdomain.com) at your new, unique IP address. If you are currently making use of external nameservers, you can view the unique IP address assigned to your domain by accessing our DNS management page, the IP will be stored there.

I have bought a secure certificate (SSL) with you, how do I know it has been installed correctly?

You need to visit your domain using “https://” at the start including the “www.” part of your domain. Remember your secure certificate is installed across the domain including “www.”

Therefore to check the SSL has been installed correctly, visit your site using –

https://www.[DOMAIN]

Note – https://[DOMAIN] will result in warning message referring to a security certificate mis-match and won’t work.

Similarly don’t forget to use https:// not http:// for all your pages that need to be secure, and images and files included within the page make sure they are referenced using https too, otherwise these items will be insecure and result in warnings.

For details on the installed certificate your internet browser when visiting the secure page/site should display a locked ‘padlock’ icon in the bottom right corner of the screen – double click this icon to open the properties and display the details of your secure certificate.

  • Apple MobileMe (iDisk) – 20GB Storage with iDisk. Store, Sync, Share and more with Apple’s iDisk and MobileMe service. Available for: Web Browsers, Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Please note that MobileMe has been replaced by Apple’s iCloud service.
